Burning Regulation Refresher: It is your responsibility to know where and when you can burn in the Town of Wescott.  In Wescott there is an Intensive Burning Area where permits from the DNR are required.  If you are not sure if you are in the Intensive Burning Area please call our office or the local DNR Ranger Station and someone will be happy to assist you. Whether you live in a permit required area or not, burning regulations must still be followed.  Burning hours are 6:00 p.m. until midnight Monday through Saturday. There is NO BURNING allowed on SUNDAYS or HOLIDAYS. After you have obtained your written annual burning permit, you must check the internet or call the burning permit hotline for daily burning restrictions. Visit or call 1-888-WIS-BURN (947-2876). NO BURNING IS PERMITTED AT ANYTIME in the designated "NO BURNING" area. This geographical area consists of the north side of Maple Avenue south to the channel and along HWY 47-55 west to the river; this includes the entire Riverside Drive road. There are NO other exceptions. If you are not sure if you can burn, please contact a town official. Burning of garbage or recyclables is prohibited. The only allowable burning material is: brush, grass, leaves & clean wood. You may have campfires. These fires are only intended for cooking and/or keeping warm. There are no time restrictions on campfires. Remember to burn late in the day when the winds are gentle. Also, ALL FIRES INCLUDING CAMPFIRES MUST BE ATTENDED AT ALL TIMES AND COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED WHEN FINISHED. NO SMOLDERING IS ALLOWED. In the designated "NO BURNING" are campfires are allowed, but are subject to only clean, dry wood. No burning of yard waste (grass, leaves, brush, etc), garbage or recyclables is allowed. Please be considerate of your neighbors when burning.  IF WHILIE BURNING, THE FIRE SHOULD GET AWAY FROM YOU AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS DIPATCHED, THE COST OF THE FIRE CALL WILL BE CHARGED TO THE PROPERTY OWNER. WESCOTT CHARGES A USER FEE ON ALL FIRE CALLS.

Oak Wilt Permits are required for the cutting & trimming of oak trees April 1st thru October 1st. Permits may be obtained from the Wescott Forester, please call 715-526-9807.  Year round permits for moving diseased firewood are also required & may be obtained from the Forester as well.  Fines will be assessed to those in violation.

Just a reminder to all residents that  Garbage placed curbside any later than 7 A.M. on collection day WILL NOT BE PICKED remember to put it out either after 6 P.M. the day before but NO LATER THAN 7 A.M. the day of !!! On occasion we use two trucks for collection, so it is important that you have your trash/recycling out on time (no later than 7 A.M.) to ensure pick up !!  We appreciate your cooperation

Recycling is MANDATORY in the Town of Wescott for ALL RESIDENTS! Recycling rules are as follows: All clean glass, tin cans, aluminum and plastics (1 - 7) may be co-mingled in the same BLUE BAG.  Corrugated cardboard must be flattened and bundled with string or placed inside another box.  All paper must be bundled or placed in a paper shopping bag. DO NOT place paper in plastic bags or cardboard boxes.  DO NOT use tape on paper bundles.  Paper cardboard (example: soda & cereal boxes) may be placed in a shopping bag with other paper items.  Shredded paper must also be placed in brown paper bags, not plastic.  Recycling items are collected every week on your regular garbage day.  In the past, we have had residents express concern that the garbage and recycling is being placed in the same truck.  The reason it appears this way is because the Town's garbage truck is a "split body" truck.  One portion holds garbage and the other recyclables. So, not to worry...your recyclables are being properly collected !!  In Wescott we recycle because it is good for our environment, our economy and because in Wisconsin, it's the law !! We appreciate your efforts in preparing your recyclables correctly and encourage all our Wescott residents to continue to do so !
